From an aerial perspective, we can see how the two masses clearly delineate between more public and more private spaces within the retreat. Even while elevated to maximize views and privacy, the design still allows ample opportunities to engage the outdoors view four separate deck areas.

Announcing River Habitat House

July 10, 2025

July 10, 2025 (Fennville, Michigan) – Behind-the-scenes we’ve been working with our clients on River Habitat House since early 2024. Having built their existing LEED-certified home in 2005 in Holland, Michigan on the banks of Lake Michigan, they are ready now for a single-level home softer on-the-feet (ie, no concrete floors this time).

The site has a gradual elevation overlooking the Kalamazoo River, has amazing natural habitat, and affords breathtaking panoramic views. Our client made it clear that they are interested in designing something for their particular lifestyle, not something that needs to cater to the general public for resale reasons.

Please check-out the project story for this special opportunity. Also, please check-back, as we’ll be adding more interesting particulars about the project design + construction process via HAUS and WERK.
